To be “at the table” in making key business decisions with other
top executives, Human Resource professionals must understand, support, and use
HR systems to reinforce business strategy. The influence, resources, and impact
of the HR function all depend on playing a strategic role. Join us in a
three-quarter day program that will engage you and your peers in active learning
about business strategy and how to translate it into HR programs and practices.
June Delano, Principal and Senior Practice Leader at Monitor Executive
Development, will lead the morning session, “From Business Strategy to HR and
Back.” June will present examples of how organizations have successfully
translated strategy into employee development and other HR practices. Monitor
Executive Development is part of Monitor Group, founded by renowned Harvard
Strategy Professor Michael Porter. Befitting this heritage, June will use a
Harvard Business School-type case study and other interactive techniques to
engage the audience in:
• Translating strategy into HR practices and looping back with insight to
advance that strategy and its execution
• Working individually or in pairs on plans to increase the strategic impact of
HR practices in their organizations
• Discussing the knowledge, skills, and context required for HR professionals to
support strategic learning
Mabel Rius, Vice President, HR Client Services for Clorox, will explore
“Matching HR Practices to Business Strategy at Clorox.” Mabel will focus on an
important and fascinating recent case: The acquisition of Burt’s Bees. Working
in small groups, the audience will grapple with the challenges and opportunities
that arose during the acquisition process, and compare their recommendations to
what actually happened. The audience also will make predictions and
recommendations concerning what should happen in the future in this case.
